I Love Daddy, 2011

The birth of my first niece inspired a barrage of candid photographs, and the purchase of my first external flash. My poor niece (and her poor mother) had to endure my unbridled enthusiasm for months, especially when, as pictured here, emotions ran wild. I always thought it was a funny addition to an already interesting juxtaposition that my niece's onesie read, "I Love Daddy."

Smith Kids, 2012

Had a fun time getting family pictures for my longtime friend Brian and his family out at Wheeler Farm in the summer of 2012. This may be one of my all-time favorite "groups of smiling kids" shots.

Happy Baby, 2013

For Christmas 2013, my sister wanted to frame a couple of surprise portraits of my nieces for my brother-in-law. I was only too happy to oblige.

Happy Ham, 2016

It's been great fun to watch (and record) the way each of my three nieces have asserted their personalities. I got this image of Niece #3 as part of a Christmas gift project, and couldn't have been happier to get an expression that truly embodied her young personality.

Windswept, 2017

Part of my justification for buying my first lens in five years in 2017 was that Canon's 100mm macro L-series lens was supposedly a good portrait lens as well. Thanks to this shot, I agree.

Happiness at Lagoon Trail, 2017

When the huge crowds started arrive at the Lagoon Trail during the time my family had scheduled for our annual portrait shoot, I began to wonder if we'd have to find an alternate location. But things worked out, and as I grabbed a few semi-candid shots of my sister with Niece #3, they really worked out.
