Frequently Asked Questions

Untitled photo

Q: What can I expect from a standard shoot?

A: Most sessions will last about an hour, and will typically yield a couple dozen finished edits. There are always variables--light, the attention span of a four-year-old, etc.--but I try my best to maximize quantity, presuming the quality baseline is intact.

Q: Do you have a studio, or do you only do outdoor sessions?

A: I don't own my own studio, but I do have access to studio space and lighting equipment if you would prefer an indoor shoot (or if it's just too cold outside!).

Q: Do you travel?

A: I am based in Bountiful, UT, but I have traveled for different shoots in the past. I am happy to travel, but additional charges may apply outside of the general Salt Lake area.

Q: What kind of equipment do you use?

A: I currently use a Canon 5D Mark III digital SLR and an assortment of L-series lenses. For editing I use a combination of Lightroom and PhotoShop.

Q: Do you shoot weddings?

A: I don't advertise myself as a "wedding photographer," but I have occasionally covered various wedding-related services over the years: engagements, bridals, receptions, etc.

Q: Do you match prices?

A: No. I realize it is a competitive market, and that there are photographers who will offer their services at much lower prices than mine. If your budget dictates a need for a lower-priced photographer, I am not offended if you decide to go with them.

Q: If I have a cousin who has PhotoShop, can I just pay you for the RAW files?

A: No. RAW files are just that, "raw." They are unfinished. They are the ingredients that make the cake, and if you hire me as your baker, I'm not going to deliver you a bag of flour and some candles.
