In July of 2016 I hiked up into the hills above Bountiful to photograph the annual Pioneer Day fireworks display at Mueller Park Jr. High. While I was perched on the mountainside, I saw the flames and smoke billowing from Antelope Island across the valley, and lined it up beyond the bright lights of the Bountiful Temple. I've photographed the Bountiful Temple numerous times, but this was probably the first time I'd used it for an exercise in photojournalism.
The annual Tour of Utah passed through my hometown in the summer of 2016, so I grabbed my camera and headed down to Main Street to see what I could catch. I went into panning mode as the leaders flew towards the finish line of that day's stage, and I locked in on #13, who looked like the winner with only yards to go. When I checked the standings later, I saw that someone else caught him from behind only moments after I got this shot.
