Christmas Chill, 2012

Never underestimate the power of creative collaboration. That's the lesson I learned in late 2012 when my buddy Dennis and I swung down to Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City to take pictures of the Christmas lights. Dennis had a new remote flash unit, and thought it would be fun to try it out. So I set up my camera on a tripod and hit the trigger while he wandered around the Main Street Plaza with the flash, no doubt alarming the unsuspecting patrons. The following year I submitted this image to the Utah State Fair, and it wound up getting chosen to tour the state with the Utah Arts Council.

Kayak Cruise, 2018

The light at Bountiful Pond when I dropped by in April 2018 was pretty on its own, but the birds and the guy who decided on a sunset kayak cruise really made my shoot.

Simple Beauty, 2016

I've never been all that passionate about do-it-yourself fireworks displays, but for the 4th of July in 2016 I picked up a few sparklers, thinking they might make for a few cool pictures with my nieces. Aside from just capturing a nice image, this shot is unique for being the very first shot I took that night.

Speeding to the Finish, 2016

The annual Tour of Utah passed through my hometown in the summer of 2016, so I grabbed my camera and headed down to Main Street to see what I could catch. I went into panning mode as the leaders flew towards the finish line of that day's stage, and I locked in on #13, who looked like the winner with only yards to go. When I checked the standings later, I saw that someone else caught him from behind only moments after I got this shot.

Relationship Goals, 2017

While visiting Arches National Park on a Spring Break road trip in 2017, I found this couple climbing in the Garden of Eden area, just before sunset.

Shanna Banana, 2013

I met Shanna Taggart through a mutual friend when she was looking for a few publicity photos for a vocal competition. Maybe it's just the inner jealousy of a bald guy, but this black and white take on Shanna's short crop haircut was one of my favorites from the shoot. Shanna went on to join my band for several guest vocal performances over the next few years, including the final (to date) Thunderlips performance at the Viewmont High Class of 1995 20 year reunion in 2015.
