The Empty Bucket, 2016

In August of 2016 I took an early morning walk up to the vegetable farm where I worked as a 12-year-old the summer after my first year at Centerville Junior High. My summer working on Bangerter's Farm was one of my most vivid childhood experiences, and it seemed like a natural part of a project I was working on to document the town where I grew up. I spent several hours there that morning, but the shots I got right at sunset of the migrant workers who harvest right alongside the teenagers were the ones that really stood out. As I thought about the struggles of the agricultural industry, and the divisiveness of immigration issues, I thought this worker's empty bucket offered just the right amount of ambiguity for the future.
